4) What is the difference between TDS and COD?
The higher the TDS value, the more impurities it contains. The impurities in the water refer to the concentration of Ca2 +, Mg2+,Na +, and K + in the water, but cannot directly indicate the quality of the water. Therefore, the TDS is too high (more than 600 or more) does indicate poor water quality, but the lower the TDS, Not means the better the water quality is.
Chemical oxygen demand indicates the amount of oxygen required by potassium dichromate to oxidize organic matter in one liter of water under strong acidic conditions. It can roughly indicate the amount of organic matter in sewage. COD is an important indicator of organic pollution in water, which can reflect the degree of water pollution.
The total organic carbon (TOC) represents the total amount of organic matter in water by the content of carbon, and the result is expressed by the mass concentration (mg / L) of carbon (C). Carbon is a common component of all organic matter, and the main element of organic matter. The higher the TOC value of water, the higher the organic content in the water. Therefore, TOC can be used as an index to evaluate the organic pollution of water quality.
